The decision of offering cash withdrawal facility at petrol pumps came after a meeting between senior executives of Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum and SBI chief Arundhati Bhattacharya. The queues shrinking measure comes following the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes by the government on November 8, that has triggered long queues at banks and ATMs across the country to deposit or exchange the scrapped notes and withdraw cash. With cash withdrawal facility at petrol pumps, government expects the rush outside banks and ATMs to be minimized.
Banks: Since banks are available in most parts of the country, it could be the easiest option to withdraw cash. But it is not the case. You can withdraw cash from any bank, but you will have to stand in a long queue for hours.
ATM: A person can also withdraw cash from an ATM machine (if it is working). Due to rush, ATMs are going cashless in minutes.
Post offices: This is also another alternative for those starving for cash
